Importance of Sensitizing Children on Dangers of Pollution

Modern society places a high priority on protecting the environment. In particular, it is important for everybody in the world to be aware of the dangers of pollution to the environment. Anything introduced into the ecosystem that could be harmful to people, plants, or even animals is considered a pollutant. The effects of pollution can be catastrophic hence it should be averted at all costs.

Most adult humans are aware of the risks posed by pollution. Children might not be as informed as the adults in their lives, though. This is why conservationists such as Angelo Dellomo suggest that children should equally be educated about dangers of pollution. Early instillation of these values can help kids develop into mature, dependable individuals. To ensure that youngsters learn as much as possible, these lessons must be taught to them in a systematic manner.

At an early age, children should not be scared with information about dangers of pollution. However, they can be taught about the positive effects of conserving the environment. Since children love watching videos, such lessons can be delivered well using audio-visual media. Use of movies demonstrating the industrial recycling of plastic products is a good example.

As children grow older and become teenagers, they are then ready to be exposed to information about the dangers of pollution. They are capable of understanding the harmful impacts of pollution at this age. Consequently, teenagers should be taught the different ways of waste-disposal that is safe to the environment. For instance, plastics should be disposed separately from organic waste. This makes it easy to recycle them.

There are many ways of educating children about importance of environmental conservation. For instance, if a child leaves a tap of water running after brushing their teeth, teach them how to conserve water. On the other hand, if they leave a room with the lights still on, educate them on how to conserve electricity. Such practical lessons are easily understood by children as compared to teaching them in class.

Various forms of environmental pollution exist. Probably the most typical environmental pollution occurs in the air and water. When kids reach adolescence, they should learn about these sorts of pollutants as a starting point. After that, lessons on noise and air pollution should be taught. In particular, people forget that noise is a form of environmental pollution with dangerous consequences. Teenagers should be taught about visual, radioactive, thermal, visual, and personal pollution, among other types of pollution.

As children are taught about pollution, it should be made clear to them that pollution is a global menace. This therefore calls for a united front by the entire world’s population in fighting against pollution. If children are educated about dangers of pollution early enough, then they will become responsible adults who will conserve their environment. In order to rescue the earth, let’s all band together and educate the youth about environmental protection.
